The title pretty much explains it’s self. The Age Gate system is broke. I know, I know, big shocker. It is nothing we didn’t know or it is nothing we are surprised about.
But here is a little story I wanted to share about the last three Fallout 4 videos I loaded.
Why Have the Age Gate System if Youtube Can’t Use It Correctly?
Three weeks ago, Youtube age gated my video. Had no idea why. The new age-gate system does not specify why your video was gated. Just says, yeah… we think its not suitable for 13-18 year olds. (mind you 14 year old youtubers are streaming / uploading GTA V videos and the like doing way worse than anything I am doing – but whatever)
My solution? I went in, removed 1 second of pretty much dead air. Re-rendered it, re-uploaded it and it was no longer age gated. System broken? ummm yes.
IMAGE ON PAGE: These are five videos I found in 45 seconds that are not age gated. Each one of them clearly has see through clothing, nipples, thongs and even a hint of vagina in one. The bottom one is the best, it is a girl licking her lips all seductive while rubbing her breasts. That is the actual thumbnail too. Yep, you guessed it, not age gated.
Last week I uploaded a video and it was age-gated. After watching the vid twice, the only thing I could come up with, is that I used the word “ass” in the title and in the first 10 seconds.
Solution? I changed the name of the title from Dead Fish & Ass to Dead Fish & Butt and bleeped out the word ass in the beginning – re-uploaded and it was no longer age gated. I am not even going to get into the absurdity of that.
This week. Guess what. Uploaded a video and it was… shocker, AGE GATED! Of course it didn’t say what it was for. I had no idea. Nothing in the video was worthy of an age gate, much like the last two.
Solution? For shits and giggles: I divided the video up in 4 (@4 minutes each). Then uploaded, waited for whatever to be age gated. It said the first section. I divided the first part into 3 (@90 seconds each), and uploaded that, and waited for them to age gate whatever. Yeah, they age gated the third section. It was screen captures from a game I streamed 4-5 times on YOUTUBE, even had a normal vid about it, all NOT age gated! But screen caps was too much. To put the finishing cherry on top; there is about 40 seconds of footage of that game at the 17 minute mark of the that video and you guessed it, that was not age-gated. All saved in this playlist. Note the “third 80 seconds” and see what was age gated.

So what does this long winded rant mean? Nothing. Youtube is really broke and very frustrating.
But there is no recourse. If you ask for a video to be reviewed they can pretty much make up anything they want to keep it age gated. There is no regulation. If you argue further, they could go through and start age gating everything on your channel (been done many times already). So you are at the mercy of their shittery.
